Adults should receive Td Boosters every 10 years. If a person incurs a would and the wound is deep and difficult to clean, the physician may order a Td if the person has not had one in the last 5 years or if the person has no record of immunization. As children the Diphtheria/Tetanus/Pertussis series of vaccines builds immunity. Presently the recommendation for children is to have five DTP vaccinations by the age of 5 years. The next booster should be given between the ages of 11 & 12 years. This will be a Td booster only.
The Iowa Department of Public Health makes Td available to LCHD through the Vaccines for Children program . This means there is no charge, only a donation if able. This allows access to everyone. LCHD provides Td vaccination at our Childhood Immunization Clinics.
